The Seasons Must-Have Trend: Pleated Dresses and Skirts

Bouchra Jarrar, Valentino, Jean Paul Gaultier

There is something very enticing in long flowy pleated dresses and skirts. As you walk, the skirt moves shaping your legs in front while arching the back part like hems of a cape. It makes you stand tall and urges you to act girly. Whether it´s to wear maxi skirt to work or to party, long pleated maxi dresses and skirts are a very trendy pick-me-up.

We´ve seen two-toned pleated dresses from Valentino´s fall/winter 2012 runway, futuristic pleated dresses from Jean Paul Gaultier, and polished long pleated skirts at Bouchra Jarrar´s runway stage. Are you wearing this trend already? Here are some looks to inspire you if you haven´t yet.

Long Pleated Maxi Dresses

Long pleated maxi dresses are made to make you look like a goddess. They´re even more perfect for you if you´re tall because you can swing those pleats well. These dresses are great for formal occasions, evening or day parties. Always wear them with strappy high heels to channel that sexy appeal down to your feet. Finish off with a great clutch.

Pleated Maxi Skirts

Fuchsia Maxi Skirt, Mermaid’s Path Teal Maxi, Champagne Maxi Skirt

The best thing about pleated maxi skirts is that you dress them up and down. If it´s for work or formal gathering, wear a bright pink pleated maxi skirt with black top, black blazer and black ankle boots, or dress up a peach pleated maxi skirt with a silky dark nude top that fits right and wear it untuck. For street looks, go for a green swingy pleated maxi skirt to mix with denim jacket, or a beige maxi skirt with sleeveless printed top.

Pleated Hi-Low Dresses

Luxe Pleat Layer Dress, Dessert Wine Dress, Palette Painting Dress

Remember how hi-low dresses and skirts were a big trend last summer? This trend hasn´t retired, instead it´s revived into a more trendy form – pleated hi-low dresses. I personally adore this Women’s Luxe Pleat Layer Dress in blue shade that´s my favorite color. Its pleats are layered and sufficiently thick making them easy to maintain. It speaks of perennially statement-making piece.

The Dessert Wine Dress and Palette Painting Dress on the other hand, are more fun and flirty with their two-toned, optical illusion appeal and striking palette paint features.

Pleated Mini Dresses

If you´re looking for a dress that would be perfect for the upcoming holidays, for an engagement photo session, for a wedding party, or if you´re simply chasing dresses that really flatters your figure, these little pleated dresses are for you.

This Women’s Monica Dress is conservative yet contemporary with perfect pleating and elastic waistband. The Sleeveless Pleated Dress is very beautiful not only with its pleats but also with its striking color and style. If the belt is too slim for you, swap it up with this wide, buckled elastic waist belt. The Pleated Dress with Tiered Hem is two-toned and is in every way flattering. It also comes with a contrast belt that highlights your waist.

Between pleated maxi dresses and pleated maxi skirts, which trend are you? How do you wear pleats this season?
