Drawing (ha!) on inspirations like Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss, Mateo Dineen grew up creating fantasy worlds as a way to escape and to tell stories on paper. Later, as a graduate of the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, Dineen honed his craft, turning his passion for drawing and painting monsters into a successful career. In 2004, he and his wife moved to Berlin from San Francisco, and have subsequently opened three galleries to showcase his work, alongside work from similar artists. You can find more of his work here and here.
Dubbed “Mister Movember,” this piece reminds us that for most of the winter, a little stubble will be excused — nay! is expected even! I mean, it’s in the spirit of keeping warm, am I right? So what if I wear pants all winter. DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT.
Full of whimsy and exuding the childlike glee of running around like a crazy person at the park, this guy is at once harmless and totally terrifying. Does anyone else see a huge lobster claw mouth about to chomp that poor kid?
We’ve all had those dreams. You know, the ones where you wake up and you try to explain it to your significant other (or your dad if you’re five), but it’s just so fuzzy and nebulous and it comes out in one long sentence without you even taking a breath and it just doesn’t make any sense at all. Phew! Don’t worry, kid. We get it. Good thing your dream bubble looks just as confused as the human trying to make sense of it.
Ugh. Teenagers and their selfies, ruining a perfectly good park with their shenanigans! This piece, painted over a found painting, captures the absurdity of society’s obsession with snapping a selfie in such beautiful surroundings. At least they aren’t Snapchatting, though. Egad! Perish the thought!
