The one-and-done release of WU LYF’s Go Tell Fire To The Mountain was probably one of the more disappointing break-ups of the decade. Thankfully, the former band members have been pretty active: three of them went on to form

American Horror Story began its’ foray into “freak show” territory last week and seems to be adopting some traditions from Ryan Murphy’s other show, Glee, by featuring a lot of musical performances (and then selling them on iTunes later on to make more money). The video for Spring King’s “Demons” feels like an exorcism in visual form, frenzied and manic. It follows a few different characters towards their eventual breakdowns: a man exercising, a magician going mad, a self-conscious dancer. All of their anxieties manifest themselves in violent and disturbing ways. The fuzzy and jerky quality of the video, which was directed by Jack Whiteley, only adds to the craziness, purposefully making it a little hard to figure out exactly what’s going on. The music itself is celebratory stuff — the UK band makes anthemic power-punk, and this song has a rousing chorus that feels like it’s been around for decades. Watch below.

Not sure if Diagrams — former Tunng member Sam Genders — named his new song “Phantom Power” as a nod to its distinct Super Furry Animals influence, but if so: Well done, sir! The tune, from Diagrams’ upcoming album Chromatics, is lush, infectious chamber pop replete with a whimsical whistling hook. But there’s a slight noisy element to it too, as if somebody tore the roof off the chamber and it’s exposed to whipping wind and debris. All in all, it’s an excellent piece of work that marks Chromatics as an album to watch out for this winter. Listen below.
