Digital Bolex D16 featured on FOX's GLEE tonight! | digitalbolex.com

We’re very excited to announce the Digital Bolex’s primetime debut on tonight’s episode of hit series GLEE, “Old Dog, New Tricks.” If you’re in the US, tune in to FOX at 8PM to see the D16 in action both on and in the show!

The fifth season of GLEE finds Kevin McHale’s character Artie a film student and aspiring director in New York City, and the show felt the D16 was the perfect camera for a modern film student, so they got in touch. We couldn’t agree more with their sentiment, and were happy to work with the show to get a camera on set.

The first episode featuring the D16 includes a scene where Kevin films a music video for a classic rock song with Chord Overstreet. Since this was a location shoot, we were able to hang out and grab some photos of the cast and crew using the camera.

The shots in this scene were dynamic, mostly handheld, moving shots paired with some static angles that couldn’t be easily captured with a large camera. Like most of the other shows that have used the D16, GLEE uses an Alexa as their A-cam, but this time the D16 was being used to contrast with the Arri footage rather than to match, which we’re excited to show everyone, because the point of the D16 is to preserve a unique analog aesthetic, as nice as it is to be able to go head to head with other top-tier cinema cameras.

It was a great feeling to see how excited everyone on set was to be able to use such a small, easy-to-maneuver camera to get the shots DP Joaquin Sedillo needed, and also to experiment with new shots off the cuff. Great thanks to the GLEE crew for being so enthusiastic about the Digital Bolex, and we’re psyched to be participating in such a well-regarded show!
