Trailer For The Remake Of Carrie Is All Wrath and Destruction

Posted in Film

It was astounding the negative feedback the Carrie remake received when it was first announced.

Kimberly Pierce is a proven director (Boys Don’t Cry!) but people insisted she was all wrong for a story of a bullied girl exploding in a rage of telekinesis, fire and blood. How could she possibly handle the nuance and the supernatural aspect?

I don’t know critics, maybe she’d just direct the flipping film?

Critics were also wary of Chloe Grace Moretz’s casting. Nevermind she’s one of the most brilliant actors of her generation and a genuine force of nature on film. She was “too pretty.” There was no way a pretty girl with Hollywood star looks could ever be bullied.

Sadly that’s been proven false in the most tragic ways possible lately.

As Drew McWeeney over at HitFix pointed out bullying has been in the media a lot lately. The release of Carrie, a parable about bullying, feels almost like kismet at this point.

There’s a lot of quality involved in this film (much like the original). Julianne Moore as her mother, Pierce as director and Roberto Aguirre Sacasa writing. Sacasa did solid work on Big Love which, to some extent, shares Carrie’s theme of isolation and he’s been pulling in paychecks as a writer and story editor on Glee. That inspires the opposite of confidence, but it definitely suggests that he won’t be afraid to make the parable aspect of the novel more overt.

Which it isn’t in this trailer. This is just a really fun long take that ends in a quick and perfect shot of a very, very angry Carrie.
