Glee creator Ryan Murphy hopes to find new talent to get his runaway hit collection. No use wasting all that 6-pack abs and a perfectly beneficial national talent search, so The Glee Project was developed. Tens of thousands associated with teen singers (along with post-teen singers pretending to check like high-schoolers) grind throughout the auditions for the chance to perform on several episode of ‘Glee’. ‘The Glee Project’ shows little of these early efforts, starting out almost immediately with the twelve chosen standouts. It’s a diverse combination of male/female, pretty/not so pretty, tall/short, longhair/short hair kids. All very, very good singers for their own right. Each themed episode is visited by the regular cast member sort the Glee mothership, not the A-list head you, mostly support characters, but unquestionably talented folks in and of themselves. The kids are given homework, a song to sing and choreograph together. They then perform it as the surprise ‘guest mentor’ different watches and picks a standout. That standout is given perks as individual tutelage with this guest mentor and special solo focus from the week’s video shoot. The week’s video can be professionally produced with vocals recorded in a studio in advance, giving vocal producer Niki Anders a chance to instruct, motivate and if at all possible, belittle the nervous, struggling voices. The show captures brief vignettes from the recording studio and your video set zooming throughout on every possible cracking voice, petty squabble and unhappy diva moment. Drama between the young singers is sought after and drawn out throughout the whole episode though usually it seems contrived or perhaps very selectively-edited. The finished video is shown in its whole. This is the undisputed acme of each episode. Casting director Robert Ulrich plus choreographer Zach Woodlee sit while in the front row and one by one offer critique and then announce towards the kids on stage who will continue and which three, the weakest of that week, will be required to perform individually while watching Murphy himself. From these three, one will not often be ‘called back’. The singers only have a couple of hours to prepare (so prohibited told), so there are your predictable shots of wedding rehearsal room sweat, tears, fear, woe and lament. Extra camera time is definitely awarded to anyone willing to reveal their own innermost trial and torment. Each of the three perform and they are then told their interests and weaknesses (generally the latter) by way of usually pontificating and condescending Murphy, whose highest compliment seems to be “I can write fot it. “.
